Proud #Pride Allies

Supporting the LGBTQ+ community isn't just about popping a rainbow on your logo.

Moody the Rogue Penguin mascot dressed up in rainbox scarf and eyepatch for Pride Month

We’re proud allies and all month we’ve been sharing campaigns on Facebook from brands who put money where their mouths are when it comes to celebrating Pride. Moody, our snarkypants mascot, also got a little makeover. He digs it.

To continue the celebration and protest for the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, we’re here to share some of our favourite campaigns that support the good fight for equality.

Do Your Thang

Let’s start with Android’s and proud campaign. This fun ad reminds us all to be true to you, and celebrate that. Two flippers up from the Penguins!

We All Belong

Proctor and Gamble is committed to removing bias against people who don’t conform to conventional gender identification. That mission is evident in their recent marketing.

Anyone else tear up the first time they saw this Gillette ad? Its look into the lives of a trans man and his father is absolutely heartwarming and pure.

Another Proctor and Gamble company, Head and Shoulders, also deserves props for normalizing the presence of same-sex couples in marketing.

Blast from the Past

After a little searching, I unearthed this relic from 1994. This is one of the first major ads to feature a same sex couple. Now, I was pretty young in 1994 but I certainly remember the culture of homophobia. After this aired, bomb threats were made at Ikea stores. Protests were made. At this point in time, Will and Grace wasn’t on TV yet and Ellen wasn’t out of the closet. This was a big deal, people! Now I love Ikea even more.

Ante Up

Equinox gyms, spas, and personal training made us proud this year by putting money where its mouth is for Pride Month.

For every post featuring #PoweredByPride or a Life’s a Ball GIPHY sticker during the month of June, they donate $1 to House Lives Matter (up to $20,000). House Lives Matter offers health, wellness, alliances, and mentoring to people in the LGBTQ+ and non-binary communities. Let’s get posting!

I’ll leave you with this.

When supporting brands who are Pride allies, choose brands who actually put money where their mouths are. These brands, including big names like Fossil and American Apparel, give back to financially support LGBTQ+ causes.
