Leave it to artists to come up with some of the most effective and creative ways of selling their businesses to the world!

This Instagram reel from @gizy.store showed off her new three-dimensional business cards, to promote her polymer clay jewellery business.

The butterfly design comes from one of her earring designs and reminds us that something creative and tactile can make all the difference when marketing your business. Of course it’s also inspiring, because when we see these, we can’t help but think of other applications, like a real estate or homebuilder who could create something similar with a house opening up to reveal contact details.

Of course visual artists also struggle to show off their work outside the confines of a gallery or online store. Artist @exspira decided to make a splash at the @artistprojectto Art Fair in Toronto late in March.

He purchased some white overalls, attached his small canvas paintings and wandered around catching the attention of a whole lot of people. He exhibited, marketed, and networked without paying a cent in booth fees, making himself a part of the art he was exhibiting.

Coachella Lures

Musicians too are using surprising marketing. It’s wild to see them buying billboards to  lure festival goers to their stage? Well, at Coachella, where there are eight stages, artists purchased billboard space all along Interstate 10 leading you into the festival grounds. Which one is your favourite? Personally, I’m a fan of Ethel Cain’s, but there are some good ones here.

Cheese & Crackers, Chocolate & Peanut Butter, and Cheetos & ... Dill?

Celebrity and advertising has always gone together like cheese and crackers. The tactic is also growing in popularity as a recession indicator.

We talked last month about Ryan Reynolds getting into the donut business with Tim Hortons, and two weeks ago we got to enjoy this gem from Flamin’ Hot Dill Pickle Cheetos, bringing together the unlikely pairing of Megan Thee Stallion and Nickelback.

Who wanted this?  Who enjoys this? And HOW did a marketing department convince the execs this was a good use of budget? We have many questions about this campaign.

We also just heard about Orlando Bloom and Drew Barrymore shooting a commercial for a cruise line and Hailee Steinfeld is partnering with Ashley Furniture. Seems like everyone is looking to build up the bank.

Natural Connections

At the same time, thoughtful celebrity/brand partnerships are some of the better ads we’ve seen recently.

And in this case the production budget had to be out of this world to have Zendaya and Law Roach starring and Spike Jonze writing and directing this ad for On clothing, but the takeaway is obvious! Do something daring.

Gimmie a Break!

Speaking of daring, what does one do with 12 tonnes of stolen KitKat bars? Of course everyone has heard about the Heist, which saw thieves steal a truckload of F1 branded KitKat bars. Most people have even heard of the campaign Nestle has launched to track down the stolen bars through this web portal. (Snitches Get Stitches).

But the ads mocking the company were the stories we enjoyed most! Ikea, for example, never fails.

Wrapping It Up

Spotted any great branding, campaigns, or great ads in the wild? Send them along! And whether you’re looking to create a standout billboard, react to the news in a clever way, or even reach out to a celebrity (local or otherwise) for a bold campaign, get in touch and Go Rogue
