We May-de it! It’s finally spring and we’re starting to see some seriously sick campaign work. And a lot of it is leaning on the good old days for ideas! Let’s get into it!

Remember This …
Neutrogena rolled out a suite of digital ads taking aim at millennials with a retro, nostalgia-based campaign we can’t stop laughing at.
Drink in The Local
Speaking of nostalgia, Corner Brook’s own Boomstick Brewing released a new line of Analog Pale Ales. They claim it’s the West Coast–style pale ale base with new hop combinations including Citra, Idaho 7, and Nectaron. We don’t know what that means, but expect someone with a moustache and beanie to tell us all about it once we order one of these beers for the sick can!
In the meantime, the campaign brings retro vibes from the can’s design to the Tetris-style game, which reminds us of our visit to Retro Arcade last spring where we spent way too much money playing pinball. Seems the west coast really IS the best coast!
Speaking of local, the south coast has got it goin’ on too! Smugglers Cove Roadhouse in Burin spent every Friday in May “hauling cold plates along the TCH.“ Looks like the only subscription box on earth with a corn and apple salad (yes, it’s delightful) has launched successfully and we hope to see more! Oh, and visit their website if you haven’t the design is delightful!

Pssst, looks like a longer term partnership with one of our local faves Urban Market 1919 is in the works! Keep your eyes peeled!
Right Place, Wrong Time
K, that’s our love letter to local, let’s wrap it up with what the F…..
Prego, the Campbell’s-owned spaghetti sauce brand, developed and quickly sold out of it’s surveillance device … er, Connection Keeper.
The $20 hockey puck-shaped recording device you’re supposed to place on the table at dinnertime to collect your family’s heartwarming banter. Or fights over the last piece of garlic bread …

And sure, the device was created in partnership with StoryCorps, which is dedicated to preserving audio recordings of regular American lives for posterity. And sure, the device has no wi-fi or bluetooth connections, storing up to eight hours of audio on an SD card, so technically it isn’t a surveillance device.
But in this moment in history, with doorbell cams being used by governments for surveillance, internet traffic being used to track your purchasing behaviour, and social media scams stealing your fingerprints and tricking you into showing your face as it ages - potentially for facial recognition … is it really the time to let your spaghetti sauce to be listening to your family fights about math homework or afterschool pickup schedules? Even for the sake of heartwarming memories in the future?
Shameless Plug
OK, that’s it, we’re getting back to our May the Fourth be With You memes. Want to work with the team that appreciates (and creates) some of the best local campaigns? (We’re pretty proud of our Go Time! Campaign for Steele Honda if you’re wondering … ) It just might be time to Go Rogue!
