Rogue Penguin has been going through some changes lately as we open our British Columbia office.
Lesley’s still keeping close tabs on all our amazing clients, but we’ve got to have someone local to rock the boat and make some waves and that person is Julia Farrell. Julia is a growing marketing mastermind with knife-sharp instincts and the drive of a freight train. But don’t take our word for it. What’s your favourite colour?
Right now? Burnt orange (but I’m not here for Pumpkin Spice anything). Always? Purple.
What’s your secret talent?
If I told you, it wouldn't be a secret ;) Real talk? I've been a rock climber for 17 years and counting!
Who is your role model?
JK Rowling. Come on.
What's your perfect work day?
Finding exciting new opportunities, collaborating with my incredible team and working hard to make my clients happy. Pure and simple. And pizza for lunch!
What’s your favourite thing to do you do when you’re not working?
It really depends on the day. Hiking, climbing, maybe playing board games or just being a hermit in search of the next great album. But let’s be honest... Netflix.
What are you listening to right now? The Paper Kites, Valley, The Arkells and, of course, Lizzo (praise be).
What’s your guilty pleasure? Mini eggs. A good book of poetry and a solid cup of hot chocolate. And mint girl guide cookies. Judge me if you will but they are CLEARLY the better cookie.
Who should we follow on Instagram?
Hate to admit it but the @SussexRoyal account is doing great things. They are harnessing social media in the right ways and are raising awareness for a lot of great charities. The fashionista in me loves @everyoutfitonsatc. They’re hilarious and so correct. @effinbirds is a total mood.
Where is your favourite place to travel?
Rome! I felt at home as soon as I landed there and dream of going back at least once a day. If I drop off the grid, you know where to find me!
What’s your favourite family tradition?
Christmas Eve at my Aunt's house. It is a long standing tradition that I have never missed, and do not plan to miss. My favourite day of the year by far.
What’s your personal motto?
“She did the best she could with the talent she had.”
What’s your favourite real world brand?
I honestly don't have one. May seem passive or surprising, but I find that there are bits and pieces of so many brands that I love and I'd rather not limit it to one. Keeping my eyes open all the time for inspiration.
What’s your favourite local business?
At the moment it's Bannerman Brewing Co. ... and not for the beer! The fact that they stepped up and hired most, if not all of the Fixed Coffee staff when the cafe closed shows incredible support for both the community and the individuals involved. St. John's could do with more local support like that. Also love the aesthetic and the re-useable products they’ve created. Buy a reusable growler, people! #supportlocal
What’s the most effective marketing tool?
Your voice. Find a way to harness it and use the right channels to get it out there. If you don't know how, hire us and we'll help.
What’s your favourite type of (marketing) work to do?
Account management, of course! Apart from that, copy. Love me some copy.
What’s your dream project?
Working on a large scale to raise awareness for important causes, initiatives and missions. Positively changing the world through creativity.
Why do you love Rogue Penguin?
Brilliant minds working together to create awesome advertising in a no-muss-no-fuss, totally fun and different way. A team of exceptional people that are not only good at what they do but good people in every sense of the word. The mascot is named after a Harry Potter character. What's not to love?

How will Rogue Penguin change with you working on accounts? Things are about to get a whole lot more energetic, haha! Honestly, I hope to help the Rogue team continue to grow and thrive by injecting passion, drive, and excitement into everything I do. I find that working in accounts means that sometimes you click with people and sometimes you don't. Hopefully I can use my unique way of clicking with businesses and individuals alike to create new opportunities for us. Bring on the next adventure.
